No Fear Shakespeare: The Tempest

A One-Day Workshop
Presented by Oslo English Players

Unlock the power of Shakespeare’s language and bring his characters to life—no prior experience required.

Step into the world of Shakespeare without fear in this immersive, one-day workshop designed to make the Bard accessible, engaging, and deeply relevant. Whether you are new to Shakespeare or an experienced theatre-maker, this workshop offers a practical, hands-on approach to understanding and performing his work.

Run by Oslo English Players and led by a seasoned instructor with both academic and acting experience, this session focuses on Shakespeare’s The Tempest—a play chosen for its striking relevance to today’s global political landscape. Through its exploration of power, leadership, populism, rhetoric, and moral responsibility, Julius Caesar speaks directly to the political questions of our time.

Through guided text analysis, vocal work, movement, and collaborative scene study, you will break down the barriers of Shakespeare’s verse and prose. Together, we’ll uncover how language is used to persuade, divide, and inspire—and how these forces come alive through performance.

What You’ll Gain:

- Language and Text Skills
Learn practical tools for decoding Shakespeare’s language, discovering meaning, rhythm, and rhetorical power within the text.

- Voice and Performance Practice
Develop vocal clarity, emotional connection, and physical presence to communicate the text with confidence and authenticity.

- Scene Study and Acting
Work collaboratively on selected scenes from Julius Caesar, rehearsing and performing in a supportive, creative environment.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Julius Caesar, a stronger connection to Shakespeare’s language, and a toolkit for approaching his plays with confidence—whether for performance, study, or personal exploration.

All levels of experience are welcome. Bring curiosity, openness, and a willingness to engage. This is Shakespeare as you’ve never experienced him before: clear, physical, politically charged—and alive.
